Being Human: The Interbeing of Mindfulness, Neuroscience and Engaged Practice

A Trauma Informed Mindfulness retreat, in the Plum Village tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh

Oct 11-14, 2024
Pine Lake Christian Camp (30 mins southeast of Red Deer)

Join Jo-ann Rosen, Senior Plum Village Dharma-Teacher, co-founder of EMBRACE (Embodying Mindfulness-Based Resilience and Community Empowerment) Sangha, and author of Unshakeable: Trauma-informed Mindfulness for Collective Awakening; and Dr. Ameeta Dudani, Clinical Psychologist, Mindfulness & Yoga Teacher, and Aspirant of the Order of Interbeing, for a 4-day residential retreat.

Together we will look at mindfulness practice through Neuroscientific and Engaged Buddhism lenses to get a new angle on how to find stability and joy while facing the many challenges of being  human. The retreat will offer body-centered and trauma-sensitive approaches to mindfulness practice that stem from a deeper understanding of our physical, emotional, and social inheritances. We hope you will join us as we experience first-hand ways of expanding our range of engagement with this very moment through familiar practices of sitting, moving, eating, and playing in ways that might be new and unexpected.

THE RETREAT WILL BEGIN WITH DINNER ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11, AND CONCLUDE AFTER LUNCH ON THANKSGIVING MONDAY, OCTOBER 14.

We request that participants stay for the whole retreat, from Friday Evening Orientation (7:00pm) through Monday’s closing circle (12:30pm) to lend full support to the community and reap the benefits of this experience.

Arrival and check-in will take place from 3-5pm on Friday, Oct 11th.
Ride shares will be coordinated to and from the venue between Calgary and Edmonton for the retreat.

There will also be a transmission of the Five Mindfulness Trainings at the retreat.
Stay tuned for information sessions coming up in the fall!

Please email goingasariverreg@gmail.com if you have any questions!

**Note this retreat is intended to be psycho-educational and is not a substitute for therapy.
