“My conviction is that if there is a sangha, a community where harmony, siblinghood, friendship & happiness exist,  it can realize a lot of things.”
~ Thích Nhất Hạnh

Going As A River Sangha Edmonton is an inclusive community of practice in the engaged Buddhist tradition of Venerable Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh (known to his students as Thây).

Our sangha is part of the international Plum Village community, mentored and led by Tiep Hien Order of Interbeing members and Dharma Teachers, rooted in the Mahayana Zen Buddhist tradition & lineage that traces back many generations in Vietnam.

Weekly practice includes sitting meditation; walking meditation; Dharma sharing; exploration of Dharma talks, Sutras, other readings and commentaries; as well as chants and practice songs.

The first gathering of every month, we will share in a recitation of the 5 Mindfulness Trainings.

Everyone is welcome, including all gender expressions, races, ages, orientations, backgrounds of experience, and spiritual or religious leanings!

You do not have to be Buddhist to practice with us. The invitation is to join us in present awareness practice and to cultivate seeing with the eyes of understanding, compassion & interbeing - as we explore how to engage our mindfulness practice in our daily lives.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Caretaking Council

Going As A River Sangha is led and mentored by practice elders - Order of Interbeing members and Dharma Teachers in the Plum Village Tradition.

The Sangha has formed a Caretaking Council, made up of long-standing practitioners who are committed to sangha practice in the lineage of Thích Nhất Hạnh.

The Caretaking Council members volunteer to practise and work together in the collective interest of our local sangha, as part of the Plum Village Mahasangha, to establish and support a harmonious practice space and community.

Council members currently include long-standing attending sangha members: Tiep Hien OI member, Alda Ngo (True Unfolding Transmission); and lay friends, Lucy Lu (Harmonious Joy of the Heart), Seaneen O’Rourke (Steadfast Dedication of the Source), Amber Borotsik (Blossoming Jewel of The Source), and Catherine Disnard (Blossoming Clarity of The Source).

All regular attendees are welcome to join and share in Caretaking Council meetings. Please know that all final decisions are made by consensus of the Caretaking Council members, in the best interests of the sangha.

Please contact us to let us know if you would like to join us at the next Caretaking Council meeting!
